The Public Security and Organized Crime Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved the holding of a public hearing to discuss the Charter of Victims’ Prerogatives of INTERVID and the strengthening of the Mariana Ferrer Law. The public hearing was proposed by federal deputy Delegada Ione (PL-MG) and aims to promote a qualified debate on the charter, which establishes objective guidelines for the adequate care of victims of sexual crimes. The discussion will also include Bill 6482/2025, authored by the deputy, which provides for protection measures for victims of sexual crimes, such as reception protocols, protective measures in the digital environment, and expansion of access to information.
Strengthening the Mariana Ferrer Law
The Mariana Ferrer Law, sanctioned in 2021, aims to confront the revictimization of victims and witnesses, giving unprecedented centrality to the rights of victims in the national judicial system. The charter of prerogatives, coordinated by Mariana Borges Ferrer Ferreira, president of the International Forum on Victims’ Law (INTERVID), seeks to establish objective guidelines for the adequate care of victims, with a focus on standardizing conduct, legal security, and the performance of public and private agents. Deputy Delegada Ione states that the bill was elaborated based on the guidelines of the charter, with the participation of Mariana Borges Ferrer Ferreira in the formulation of technical contributions. Among the suggested guests for the public hearing are Minister-President of the TST, Luiz Philippe Vieira de Mello, and Minister of the STJ Marluce Caldas.
