In Pinheiros, west zone of São Paulo, a 24-year-old young man was shot in the stomach and legs during an attempted robbery in the early hours of Wednesday (27). According to the victim’s girlfriend, who was the main witness, the victim refused to hand over his cell phone to the thieves, and the robbers reacted by firing shots at him. Although neither the cell phone nor the wallet was stolen, the victim was taken to the Hospital das Clínicas in serious condition and underwent surgery. According to the Civil Police, the case is being investigated as an attempted latrociny, which is robbery followed by death.
The crime occurred around 1:25 am, on Rua Bianchi Bertoldi, in Pinheiros, when the victim and his girlfriend were going to a local establishment. The suspicion is that the group of thieves was already committing crimes in the region and had three robbers, each on a motorcycle. On the occasion, they announced the robbery demanding the delivery of cell phones, and the victim refused to cooperate, which led the robbers to shoot him. The images of the crime scene show military police rescuing the victim and asking witnesses to stay on the scene to keep it intact. The victim’s girlfriend accompanied the rescue and was informed that the thieves fled taking the boyfriend’s wallet.
The Civil Police are investigating the case, looking for clues from the robbers, and the victim was taken to the Hospital das Clínicas in serious condition. Despite the severity of the situation, the victim is not at risk of dying, according to the medical team’s information. The incident draws attention to the violence in the city and the increase in robbery and latrociny crimes in some neighborhoods in the west zone. Although there is a concern with safety, it is essential to remember that the number of crimes is not a single indicator of safety and that there are many other factors that influence the perception of safety.
The city is working to improve safety, increasing the presence of police in the most affected areas and conducting awareness campaigns about the risks of robbery and latrociny crimes. The community is also being invited to contribute to safety, participating in surveillance initiatives and reporting crimes.
